Royal Standard Landscaping owner Peter Saros has ten years of horticultural experience growing the gardens of Toronto in the neighborhoods of Rosedale, Forest Hill, Lawrence Park, Moore Park, Lytton Park, and Yorkville. He has also been privileged to work amid a wide range of properties within and outside the environs of the GTA.
The roots run deeper.
Peter’s formal horticultural training germinated in a university botany course. He holds a minor in biology and a major in religion from Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota. Peter graduated in 1996 with a degree of Bachelor of Arts Cum Laude. He dedicated a summer to methodical investigation on a paleo-ethno-botanic research project. After graduation, he was offered the opportunity to work on the Hamline University grounds crew under award winning Director of Facility Operations and Horticultural Services Ken Dehkes. Dehkes’ spirit remains a guiding influence to this day.
Peter began his horticultural work in Toronto as a landscape gardener. He worked his way up to a foreman position, and operated the past several seasons as Manager of Maintenance Services. Peter’s professional development advanced through training done with: Landscape Ontario, OATI (Ontario Agricultural Training Institute), Landscape Management Network, and Turf Revolution. He has studied in areas as diverse as human resources management, health & safety, and environmentally-responsible turf management.
Peter received a gardening award from the city of Toronto Garden District which was presented to him at Allan Gardens by former Toronto Mayor David Miller. Peter also headed the crew that was honored by The Cabbagetown Preservation Association for excellence in garden maintenance work.
